Interactive Multimedia for Effective e-learning for Media Programming
Section 1. Project Objectives
1) Develop a comprehensive framework that combines
pedagogical strategies (Ryberg 2007) with the external and internal factors of e-learning environments which support the development of using interactive media (Heilesen and Josephsen 2007)
2) Critically evaluate the framework to assess simply the effectiveness of fused media within e-learning environments;
3) Design and deliver a fused media e-learning environment that can be used by creative media designers and producers for learning Technical skills, such as programming skills.
What are your proposed objectives for the following year?
1) Presented qualitative and quantitative metrics will be extended and used to assess the knowledge, skills and learning styles of the learner. Using the Framework, the metrics will enable a baseline analysis of learners and their existing knowledge and learning styles. This baseline will be used to assess the learner's needs and identify the interactive media that will be the most effective for the learner to acquire new technical skills. This fulfills objective 2 of the main aims of the investigation as presented in the section one;
2) Develop a fused media e-learning environment, using a variety of new media that are suitable for different learning styles. This fulfils objective 3. of the main aims of the investigation as presented in the section one;
3) Start analysis and evaluate of existing e-learning tools and environment;
4) Use the results of analysis being designed of e-learning environment, for creative learners.Section 2. Please give a brief report on your progress against your previous objectives for the year. If this is your first year please provide details of progress since commencing
Basically, since the enrolment has been made as PhD students, research progress started by doing an investigation focuses in the field of e-learning which can be divided to several stages as following:
1. existing comprehensive frame work has been discovered by
a) Obtain the main ideas from the emphasis of integrated learning path that very according to student to change traditional learning from passive to active learning method based on this paper (Nunnington 2006). Imholz states that students must move from being a more traditional passive classroom learner into a more active online inquirer (Imholz 2008);
b) Survey in the recent literature review to find out the different dimensions, sub-dimensions, types, categories/ in each dimension of e-learning began with the user;
c) Renew the framework by continue investigation with relevant paper and taken into consideration their emphasis according to reached dimensions and/or sub-dimensions and framework (Donzellin & Ponta 2007, ORZA 2005). continue update by doing the same with other paper and thesis
d) Research framework is appeared as a process of generating content, technology and services environment with the aim of providing a package that makes the user’s learning easier and more comfortable by active way , especially for user whose focus on creative use of technology but are not technical;
e) Shortcoming of current efforts to distinguish clearly between external dimension that can be measured and quantified, and an internal dimension, the view, that is relative to the individual. These two dimensions as well as to bring out the complexity of introducing ICT solutions in a learning environment (Heilesem and Josephsenb 2007); and
f) Distinction between different pedagogical models and two different tension : Teacher versus participant control, curriculum orientation versus problem orientation (Ryberg 2007)
g) E-learning framework is possible to do well about the aim. However, potential of e-learning may be limit to adoption both on an institutional and a personal level are a real problem needed to be more focused as well as the case of interactive problems. In addition, in terms of distinctions between different pedagogical models more 1attention needs to be in how to select the suitable pedagogical model (Ryberg 2007).2. More survey has been done for complete the application of registration form
3. Critically evaluate the framework to assess simply the effectiveness of fused media within e-learning environments has been found out by:
a) Survey of new concepts and principle of thinking skill and creativity . Based on what Fetaji and others pointed that to develop the use of e-learning from a pedagogical point of view, it is necessary to understanding of theoretical principle of learning process and of the standard learning environment and not enough to study the existing practice (Fetaji et al 2007)
b) Zohar emphasis that moving from a focus on old learning towards a focus on higher level thinking and deep [r1] understanding necessarily lean on strategies for implementing systemic education change (Zohar 2008)
c) Fetaji and others recommend that pedagogical approach to designing virtual learning environment and particularly for learning programming , the learning environment to be grounded in cognitive and positive learning theory [r2] (Fetaji et al 2007)
d) The high-level process for guiding the design of new e-learning services [r3] refined the best practice in this field. It specifically focuses on three areas: the capture and refinement of user needs; a set of guidelines for a generic learning system; and a framework for the design and evaluation of e-learning components(Gardner et al 2006)
e) Student learn fundamental models from knowledge representation and operation as a system, where the elements are linked to each other. In OTSM lessons, learners deal not only with educational problems but also with real world problem (Sokol et. al 2008)
f) Zohar appears probably that is Pedagogical Horizon document is implemented by working on three dimensions which needs to take place simultaneously and he believes that will indeed enable a systemic change in the desired direction (Zohar 2008)
4. Investigation for suitable metric and tools from literature review was carred out and here are some findings pointed that is two different approaches are possible and these are some views:a) Sokol and others believe that is necessary to obtain rich information by planning more qualitative research tools (Sokol 2008) .Other authors have the same opinion that quantitative methods can be helpful in a qualitative study (Westerman, 2006; Yanchar, 2006) .While Donzellini and Ponta , pointed that is very difficult to judge in an objective and quantitative way, the effectiveness of an educational tool (Donzellini and Ponta 2007). the researcher strongly with the same view of that quantitative methods can be helpful in a qualitative study (Westerman, 2006; Yanchar, 2006);
b) To enhancing the effectiveness of e-learning by using LEX methodology as quantitative metrics to obtain rich information including (questionnaire, interview , focus group and no of assignments carried out)(LEX 2006);
c) Critically evaluate the framework to assess simply the effectiveness of fused media within e-learning environments.
5. Still on going survey on theortical issue and instruction of higher order thinking and may not be yet suitable for educational research
a) Increasing the proportion of written items that required higher order thinking and of open-ended written items, by increasing the number of subjects and combining elements of on-going( Sokol eta 200).
b) Learning outcomes should be measured [r1] through their deep learning, higher order thinking, critical thinking, or problem-solving skills. Online discussion is usually regarded as the major communication tool between the online instructor and learners, and is regarded as the major vehicle to promote deep learning,and high quality learning outcomes.
c) Signaling to the whole system that the requirement to incorporate more thinking in teaching and learning is a serious one that can not be overlooked( Sokol eta 2008).
d) Sokol and others indicated that is important to know that TRIZ seen as a science for engineering system and may not be yet suitable for educational research( Sokol eta 2008).
e) Still continue investigation in literature review of teaching and learning tools and environment
f) Outline the plan for each stage of research and writing up the current Annual Review
